As I was going over some of the entries in my files, this one came up as not having been posted. When it was opened, the reason for this non posting became apparent: it had not been finished. Start date was around May 20th, a couple of days after I returned from that Georgia trip but, for some reason, it was abandoned, left there to become dust in the virtual bin of the computer. Well, it is being rescued now and, if I can inject some life into it, it will be posted. The concept is interesting, as “Quantum Spaces” is a theory which many hold to be true. For this to be so, there would have to be an infinite number of parallel universes… then again, What do I know?
Note from me: This was started some 6 weeks ago…
Lately, my dance card has been steadily becoming busier, with many changes and refinements along the way. Last week, after much deliberation, I took my meager savings and my tired body down to Deep South Georgia , where I was introduced to a medium size insurance company which specializes in small policies for "last expenses". Simple sales, no underwriting to speak off and quick turnaround. Liking what was there to see and hear, the new mantle was accepted and worn. Every morning, I mount my trusty "Fifi" (Stop it!! not that, you nasty…!! I refer to my loyal ‘97 4 wheeled chariot) and head to the fair city of Gastonia (some 35 miles away) where the office is located. Eventually, there will be a local office set by yours truly, but this is about 3 months away...
What does the above have to do with the pretentious little title for this entry? Not much, you say... WHOA!!! says I; don't go so fast my friend. You see, my recent reading time has been somewhat taken up by the concept of "Quantum Jumping". According to this theory, every time there is a life altering decision made, two universe lines are created: the one which goes into the new direction, and the continuum for the old universe, which keeps going, very stubbornly, as if no changes were made. In other words, from the moment when that decision to go to Georgia and change courses was made, there are now two (more) of me, one of whom never changed direction. So, I thought: based on this, what would be some of the many faces of self which must be gallivanting around somewhere?
1- An MD in Cuba , probably internal medicine, practicing in my hometown, and married to my childhood sweetheart, with several children and grandchildren;
2- A famous radio personality, working out of a major market in the US , doing bilingual shows;
3- The president of an insurance company;
4- A famous writer… (snicker, snicker…);
5- Of course, a well received actor (did some such work moons ago);
6- A well established independent consultant;
7- The head of a humanitarian foundation (this one is still pending…)
8- A famous singer (Good Lord knows I’m a frustrated one!!)
9- Living in the Pacific Northwest ;
10- Living in Puerto Rico ;
11- Living in Connecticut ;
12- Living in Southern Florida ;
13- Living in Argentina ;
14- The husband/partner of my HS sweetheart;
15- The widower of my fist wife;
16- The husband of my second wife;
17- The husband of my third wife (still am that one!!)
18- Living the singles life…
19- A long haul truck driver (Huh??)
20- An independent insurance agent (I am that…)
21- And whatever else can be dug up!!!
A little directed digging really brings up what many faces most of us have worn at one time or another, if we have lived long enough. Several of these have been important so as to be remembered, and we all have had many detours along the way. This is not a question as to whether these last have been good, bad or indifferent; we ourselves are not fit enough judges for our own issues, much less those of others. As it relates to the topic… I don’t know about Quantum Jumping and variable, parallel universes; my logical mind tells me this is nonsense. My other mind, the one that dreams, the one that visualizes what could/should be, that believes in tomorrows, that allows me to go crazy and dream up things that can be written and argued, the mind that allows me to start over and again without ever giving up; the one that questions everything, especially itself…
That one says: “Why Not??”
And, indeed, why not? After all, it was "clearly" explained in “Back To The Future” by our good Dr. Emmet Brown: in order to fix/eliminate the current universe thread being experienced, one has to go back to a time before it was created and change the order of events which allowed it to become a reality… Simple understanding, huh? According to Dr. Brown (or his writers, if you prefer) once a thread becomes reality, you cannot eliminate it from within. So, we are back to square one: every time we make a life changing decision (or we allow one to be made for us) we suffer a “split universe personality” One remains on course and, on a different plane than the original, the new course is charted… makes sense, no? How’s that?... Can’t hear you…
In the end, as all else points to, this concept tells us that we are masters of our universe(s). We make decisions that impact our lives and the lives of those around us. These can be decisions to acquiesce and continue on a path we know to be far from optimal or to continue on a path we think to be right; or else, to make sweeping changes in our lives which will take us into a different path, or universe, as it were. No guarantees in any direction, but you knew this, right?.
All those times we wistfully look back over our shoulders and talk about the things we “could’ve” or “should’ve” done, I guess we can say that our universe paths changed when we didn’t do whatever it was that should've or could've been done. And when the remembrance is a wistful, somewhat longing one, it usually means that the choice made, or allowed to happen, did not turn out as we thought it might.
‘Nuff for now… Be Well… Be Back!
