Who’s On First?

We are now coming into the times when all viable (and several non-viable, but insistent) candidates for different positions along this great land start their physical and oral meanderings in order to have the right to claim the elusive prize at the end of the campaign tether.

From now until January of 2013, when the newly elected President and partial Congress take office, we will be exposed to a rather large amount of propaganda and double talk. Most of us will go on with our daily lives, since this is complicated enough nowadays yet the people who should be, I think, managing affairs of estate literally and figuratively, will be more preoccupied with a potential re-election to an office they now occupy, or an election to an office they believe should be theirs to be so occupied.

Our President has already embarked on an initial tour of several states which figure to be important in his own bid for:
a) regaining a semblance of control and,
b) trying to shore up his standings in the polls; these are much lower than I am sure he, or his party pundits would like them to be.

And there are “only” some 10 months in which to stem the current negative tide and change it to his favor, if he is in any way hopeful of regaining the possibility of being at the White House for another 4 years. The last 3-4 months of campaign time are usually sliding times, little can be truly done by then to revert a defined trend; good or bad.

In the meantime, back at the republican ranch, the horses for the main race are finally being identified. Some who were snorting around for a while have by now been returned to their stables so they can be rested in case there is a call, at some future time, for an entry into the old-timer stakes. By that time, maybe their names and failures will have been forgotten; we do have a short memory. By the way, this is true for the other party; our esteemed democrats should perhaps look at the possibility of hiring new speech writers and slogan creators. Most of what is being said is sort of repetitious, if you know what I mean. But then, we have shown that, as a listening public, we don’t listen much. So, repeat away then.

What does all of this mean to us, the “little people”? Is there someone really at the helm during this time? Yes, I realize that all pundits will say OF COURSE!! Especially those who belong to the party of whomever may be questioned at any given time. There are several major crisis(es?) going on at this time; social, political and economic problems on the home front, with an international financial meltdown a possibility.  I do think that this business of election/reelection really seems to put a damper on the management of the day to day on goings; I don’t care what anyone says. Still insist on having a 5 or 6 year one term presidency as a better choice.

The worst part will be the interminable speeches and set promises which will be thrown out to all who may care to listen; most of these are so re-thread that they are probably taken from a major speech master pattern somewhere, and fed to the speaker depending on the location, the circumstances, and what the major perceived threat-of-the-day to the speaker may be. Of course, the other side also does the same, except it is a portion of a major “they-cannot-do-anything-right-look-at-where-we-are” speech. Funny thing for it seems to be exactly the wording of the message(s) the other side used when they were looking to unseat the then incumbent.

PLEASE THINK!!!

We as voters have the ultimate weapon to tell these jokers that the status quo is no longer viable. The problems we encounter today, and those which will be encountered in the future, are of a different order than hose which are viewed as “traditional”. There is no such thing anymore, the issues which have pummeled our society over the last couple of years should be enough to make us understand that programmed solutions are not the answer.

There is a catch phrase which makes the rounds every so often: “Think outside the envelope”. As far as our political life and leaders is concerned, it is high time we do so; yes, there is always the risk that the envelope will tear but, frankly, it is pretty well torn right now. And the worst part is that we all insist on hanging on to the threads instead of letting go.

Good Lord… We have ahead of us 10-12 months of bombastic rhetoric which will do nothing but aggravate the living daylights (if it doesn’t, it should) of those of us who have heard it all before and, as history goes, that includes most voters over the age of 25.

There is no real difference between Dems and Reps… Their interest lies in getting in and holding on, the true needs of the constituents don’t figure much once the vote count is completed. All promises are left behind and the created interests continue to rule. We truly do need a strong enough third party, to force the real issues to the front and promote intelligent discussion, not screaming matches. Someone should tell many of the “mouthpieces” who appear on TV’s minor debates and news commenting, that a louder voice is NOT an indication of a higher intellect or of having the right of it. As a friend used to say: ”Lower the decibels and increase the content of your arguments”.

Welcome to the pre-pre sorting out campaigns for the primaries, to be followed by the primary campaigns to be followed by post primary campaigns, followed in turn the actual election campaigns. The store keeps running in the meantime and at times it seems to be doing so into the ground but, Who is minding the store really?

As the famous vaudeville routine used to start…

Who's On First???

Be Well… Be Back!!
Anyone feel this way???
