Morning Rolls Into Afternoon.

Days come and go… and we fail to note just how quickly and surreptitiously this happens…

Did you realize that just “a few short days ago” we were celebrating the end of the old year? And now we are already well into the second week of the new one. Yes, I know, we are too busy trying to replace the money we spent over the holidays but, time marches on and this issue has to be noted and attended.

Are you too busy to take a few minutes to give to yourself? Or to a loved one who, all he or she may need, is a show of affection? Takes but a few minutes, a little longer perhaps if you are dealing with children who do not (nor should they have to) understand the “time is money” concept. Frankly, I disagree with this overused and badly misused false truism. Time is indeed a valuable commodity. But not only in terms of money; it is also an extremely valuable item when used to improve oneself or a relationship. And not with money as the immediate result of the activity.

All my adult life I have battled, in one way or another, the concept that every waking moment of every day has to be used to generate funds. How about generating some inner peace, some contentment… perhaps even generating a lifestyle that, while looking after our needs, allows us to grow as individuals and to perhaps contribute to society at large in measures other than monetary?

In that society of ours, blinded by the “more is better” concept, I am viewed –even in my own home- as someone who is not willing to work 24/7 (hate that term!!) for I firmly spouse the idea that some of that time is mine, and mine only; it will be better spent on those activities that allow me to… well, simply, become a better me, although not necessarily in the way others would like to see me become. And yours truly is an extremely jealous guardian of that corner of his mind that refuses to keel over under pressure.

Yes, morning is indeed rolling into afternoon. So it is with our lifeline. Dawn goes into morning and before we become aware of it, we are having lunch, so to speak. Then we slowly roll into the afternoon of life, not really knowing where the hours were truly spent, or why.

Think about it. Where are you in your own life at this moment…? What stage of that day are you into…? Morning…? Noon…? Afternoon...? Or perhaps, you are now looking at the waning sunrays of a lazy, late afternoon soon to become evening…

Nor I, nor anyone has the right or true understanding to be able to tell someone else whether the time spent and deeds done were good, bad or indifferent. That is for each individual to look into, to reflect about and to finally determine whether those hours were well spent, or simply misspent.

The most important issue is that, no matter what went on before this moment of self analysis, there is always the opportunity to use those hours still left (of which we really never know how many there are) and use them well; use them in a manner that will let you look back when that midnight moment comes, as it will for all of us, and be satisfied that the efforts were there. Perhaps not the results but, contrary to the capital credo that repeats over and again that only results count, I firmly believe that intent and effort are valid and valuable measures.

It is never late, no matter what time of that day it may be, to become a better person and to use those hours left in  a manner that will allow you to be at peace with yourself... and your lifeline.

Be Well … Be Back!!!
